Istrian Wine Run is a race for professional athletes but also total amateurs who would like to try something similar for the first time. The race concentrates on having a good time and presenting the Istrian culinary and wine offer. Throughout the race, the competitors can visit wine cellars and wine and food stops where they can sample wine by Istrian winemakers. At the start and finish line, and certain locations along the track, musicians will accompany and entertain the runners. Winners of the men’s and women’s marathons will win their weight in wine.

The festival will be held again in Jaškovo near Ozalj, a year after setting the Guinness record for the longest strudel at 1,479.38 m. The traditional culinary event aims to create a distinctive brand of the cuisine of Karlovac County, to preserve and popularize traditional cuisine and the products of Karlovac entrepreneurs. The day-long festival is full of content for all ages – culinary workshops, wine and food samplings, lectures, prize games, and the selection of the Best Croatian Strudel by an expert jury.

Osijek got its beer days in 2009, relatively late if you keep in mind that this is a town where beer has been produced since the 17th century. This makes it the oldest beer center in Croatia, with its beer tradition maintained until today, thanks to various breweries such as the Osječka Brewery that holds Doors Open Days on the weekend of the event. The festival will be held in the tent on the left bank of Drava River, near the Osijek catacombs, and the entry to all events is free of charge.

A frittata with truffles (2016 eggs and 10 kg of truffles) prepared in a 2.5 m wide skillet is just one of the events which will take place during the first day of Subotina, the hundred-year-old folk festival in Buzet. The next day, the streets of Buzet are once again occupied by old crafts, a folk festival and an excellent autochthonous wine and culinary selections, giving the whole town an ancient feel.

Oktoberfest, the largest beer festival in the world, is held each year in the Bavarian capital of München. There are almost seven million visitors from all over the world during the 16-day festival. Even though many wonder why it’s named after the month of October, when it takes place in September, the reason for it hides in its history. The first festival was held on October 12th, 1810, during the wedding of Prince Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Bavaria, in whose honor horse races were organized. Oktoberfest beer is beer served at that location since 1818 and provided by six breweries, known as the Big Six – the Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner and Spaten breweries. Most of the beer served is the so-called lager beer which has up to 6 percent of alcohol and ferments over the summer months, from March until the start of the festival when it’s served in millions of beer mugs. Even though all beers were initially dark, since 1872 lagers were also served, and in 1892 the first beer in glass mugs.
